ABOUT THE PROJECT
Lead Artist, tenor saxophonist/composer Howard Wiley, working with East Bay Center for the Performing Arts, will compose original music for a 3-hour New Orleans-style procession performed by 20± professional jazz musicians from Extra Nappy, a roster of outstanding local jazz artists with whom Howard works in the San Francisco Bay Area. The premiere performance will anchor a 2.3 mile Ceasefire “Walk for Peace” through often-avoided streets of Richmond, CA, including North Richmond, Iron Triangle, and Southside neighborhoods. This annual walk takes place in memory of victims of violence, as well as extends a peaceful call to take back the streets.
