ABOUT THE PROJECT
Public Safety For Real will dramatically propose a new vision of public safety in Skid Row—that relies upon community engagement, empathy and compassion. LAPD will accumulate community knowledge about its own problems and solutions, incorporating the real achievements and difficulties of creating a community of compassion to arrive at a communal articulation of public safety. The performance will unveil the fear and discrimination inherent in the politically propagandized idea of “public safety” and articulate an alternative, in which “public safety” is not imposed, but generated by cultivating a sense of mutual responsibility in creating the well being of their community.
