ABOUT THE GRANT

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Notes from the Riverkeepers is a theatrical concert exploring the risk, economic drivers and history of crude oil-by-rail transport through the Columbia River Gorge – the geological gateway from the North Dakota fracking boom to the shipping terminals of the Pacific Ocean. It incorporates the history of the federal railroad, financial and investment structures of the energy sector, and the frequent phenomenon of oil train derailments and explosions, particularly the 2016 derailment and explosion of Union Pacific train 5544 in Mosier, Oregon. Community partners Signal Fire, Columbia Riverkeeper and Headwaters Theatre will support a regional tour through communities around the Columbia River.
