ABOUT THE PROJECT

LILIʻU: Tribute to a Queen is a live, scripted production of art that merges the Native Hawaiian and Western art traditions of music, dance, and theatre.

This project commemorates Queen Liliʻuokalani, Hawaiʻi’s last Queen, and her historic artful acts of resistance.

This free, public performance will take place on the grounds of ʻIolani Palace, built in 1882 and the only royal residence in the United States, which was the final home of Hawaiʻi’s last reigning monarchs and served as the official royal residence and the center of the Kingdom’s political/social life until the overthrow of the monarchy in 1893.
