ABOUT THE GRANT
- $17,418 to Amerinda, Inc. to support Kinstillatory Mappings in Light and Dark Matter (MAP 2019)
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Kinstillatory Mappings in Light and Dark Matter is a way of being and a way of making. It is research and process as ceremony. It is dance. It is writing about dance. It will be shared in process as dance, public gatherings around fires and food, continued Round Table conversations, essays and stories. Monthly ceremonial fire-side gatherings hosted by Emily Johnson at Abrons Art Center contemplate the ways in which we activate and create decolonized and Indigenized space; the ways in which we activate celestial rematriative mappings (Karyn Recollet) through gesture, form and dance making.
How is our Indigenous dancemaking a way of mapping new routes that get us out of habit, of engrained pattern, of harm?
We (Emily Johnson and Karyn Recollet) intend makings: fire, dance, essay, story, new knowledge, relationship. We intend to artistically and with our Indigenous feminine knowledge and scholarship turn the shape of what is.
We intend to share the process, to invite people who are Indigenous and people who are not Indigenous, in. We want Indigenous dance, knowledge, and people recognized. We believe commitment to Indigenous dance, knowledge, and people is vital to the healing and health of our communities and world.
