ABOUT THE PROJECT
Kai ‘Apapa, Hawaiian for coral reef, is a multimedia examination of American National Parks’ nine coral reef systems. Composer/video artist Christine Southworth, composer/clarinetist Evan Ziporyn, studio artist Diane Burko, and climatologist Samiah Moustafa will be in residence together at each park filming the reefs, recording sounds of each island, and creating music, video, photographs and paintings of and about each park. The finished piece will be multidimensional: a live performance piece for theaters and planetariums with 360° video, elaborate soundscapes and live clarinet, bagpipe, and vocals; an installation; and a website featuring their research and an online installation.
