About the Project

Fondly, Collette Richland is new play written by Sibyl Kempson and created in collaboration with ERS. It begins as a serene domestic scene that gradually unravels. Mysterious off-stage forces and an unexpected guest become entwined in a drama that is a surreal homage to Jane Bowles – an author who for years has been of interest to Kempson. The choice of Bowles gives the company a solid challenge and point of entry for the new piece. Having taken on Hemingway, Faulkner, and Fitzgerald over the last six years, ERS is making a conscious effort – both in the decision to work with Kempson and in the substance of what we expect to create – to make a piece that is rooted more firmly in the contributions of the many talented female artists who are members of the company. As with all ERS work, many other influences and points of inspiration continue to emerge during the rehearsal process and factor into the creative work of the ensemble. The result is a lush, engaging, strange and beautiful trip into unknown mental and physical spaces.
