About the Project

Choreographer John Jasperse, in collaboration with composer Jonathan Bepler, will create a new evening length work, From once between (working title), using the phenomenon of emergence to inform the development of the work. Emergence theory describes the way in which complex systems and patterns arise out of a multiplicity of relatively simple interactions. It describes processes through which structures with radically distinct attributes result from the catalytic interactions of distinct parts that do not share those same attributes. The work will seek to explore what are often seen to be interstitial boundaries between disparate aesthetics and cultural sensibilities.

The work will premiere at commissioning partner New York Live Arts in late spring 2014, with a developmental residency sponsored by American Dance Institute in spring 2014. Touring engagements for the work include the American Dance Festival in summer 2014.
