About the Project

In the 2013-2014 season, The New Group will present Thomas Bradshaw’s Intimacy, a play about the integration and naturalization of pornography in American suburbia. Using live video feeds, it explores three multicultural, middle-class families as they each get involved in different ways in amateur porn. Like Bradshaw’s other work, Intimacy pushes the boundaries of what a play can do, as well as what one can do in a play. The play follows each family and their interactions through a series of short, pithy scenes that unfold chronologically. But within that structure, the dramatic moments have been distilled to their essences, and the action becomes starkly illuminated, live and on video, without moral comment or context.
