About the Grant

$25,000 to support Third Trinity (MAP 2013)
$5,000 to general operating expenses for Miami Light Project, Inc.

About the Project

Teo Castellanos (writer/performer) will collaborate with Tarell McCraney (director/dramaturg) to create Third Trinity, a new performance work steeped in ritual and filled with musical language/era related songs. The play will tell a unique story of Puerto Rican Nationalism, the Drug wars of the late 1980s and the timeless tale of brotherhood. The work will open with a visit to the local Santera (modern day soothsayers), where a young mother is told that one of her sons will be a professional, one will be a criminal and the yet another will be an artist. Having no children to speak of, the young mother scoffs off augury until the untimely murder of her sister leaves her with custody of two male children and she finds that she is pregnant with yet another son. Three young boys - one dark, one light, and one … clearly “an artist” - all three decidedly Puerto Rican, begin an uncanny journey into drug cartels, prison, political dissonance, and the theater.
