$30,000 to support Tugboat Jupiter (MAP 2013)
$5,000 to general operating expenses for Headlong Dance Theater

About the Project

Tugboat Jupiter will be an immersive dance theater piece that takes place on the Delaware River, aboard the restored 110-year-old tugboat Jupiter.

In Headlong’s recent work, the company has been obsessed with the idea of creating experiences for audience members – experiences that open their eyes to their own environment in new ways. In this project Headlong will use the intersection of the urban environment (buildings, concrete, piers, tugboat) and the oft-overlooked natural environment (the Delaware River) as the dramaturgical starting point. Dance artist Jennifer Monson will serve as artistic advisor.

Like with Headlong’s other works CELL, Explanatorium, and This Town is a Mystery, the company wants to create a piece that is experiential, immersive, and subtly transcendent for citizens of Philadelphia.
