$5,000 to general operating expenses for Harlem Stage

About the Project

The Idea(s) of Harlem, a song cycle conceived by musician/composer/visual artist STEW, explores both the reality and myth of Harlem through the lens of writer James Baldwin. Harlem Stage will commission, develop and premiere the work, which will also feature a trio ensemble of multi-instrumentals and video design. Through a music and visual exploration that intends to illuminate, challenge, tease, celebrate and probe images both commonly and uncommonly associated with Harlem, audiences will be asked to consider the question, “What does Harlem mean?”
