About the Grant

$20,000 to support a new work (MAP 2004) commissioned by Present Music from composer Henry Brant.

About the Project

Milwaukee's internationally respected new music ensemble, Present Music, will, as the centerpiece for its annual Thanksgiving concert, perform the world premiere of Pulitzer Prize winning composer Henry Brant's special oratorio for 4 choruses and 25 instrumentalists. Mr. Brant's work, Wind, Water, Clouds & Fire, was created specifically for Milwaukee's St. John's Cathedral, and will employ his pioneering spatial technique by widely separating vocal & instrumental groups throughout this unique, exquisitely restored Milwaukee landmark. The Brant work is the largest piece ever commissioned and performed in the ensemble's 23 year history and will represent a monumental collaboration that includes The Bucks Native American Drumming and Singing Group, the Milwaukee Children's Choir, members of the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Choral Artists, Pius high school choir, and the choir from Brookfield Central high school.
