About the Grant

$40,000 to support Blocks of Continuality/Movement-Live Cinema (Blocks) (MAP 2008), a new dance and live cinema work by Koosil-Ja Hwang, that tells three stories simultaneously to simulate our coexistence and our living in the world of digital and flesh.

About the Project

Blocks is created in collaboration with David Or (3D scenery production manager and programmer), Robert Ramirez (OGRE 3D engine manager and programmer), Geoff Matters (music composer and media advisor) and Melissa Guerrero (dancer and live processing coach).  In Blocks, Hwang proposes an experimentation to demonstrate a concept that body, space, and objects have two natures – actual and virtual. It is part of her continuous study of the “evolution of the body in the digital era and its realm of domain and identity.” koosil-ja/danceKUMIKO will perform Blocks at BankArt 1929, Yokohama, Japan and venues in NY in the fall of 2009.
