About the Grant

$30,000 to support Dos Pueblos/Two Towns (MAP 2007), a collaborative bilingual theater project between Mexico City-based director Ruben Ortiz and Portland-based ensemble theater companies Hand2Mouth Theatre and the Miracle Theatre Group, that addresses the contemporary, mythical and historical interdependence between the U.S. and Mexico.

About the Project

Dos Pueblos/Two Towns is a collaboration involving director Rubén Ortiz (Mexico City), Hand2Mouth Theatre (Portland, OR), and the Miracle Theatre Group (Portland, OR). Together these artists will create a bilingual performance piece that addresses the contemporary, mythical and historical interdependence between the U.S. and Mexico. The performance will portray two towns -- one in the U.S. and one in Mexico -- that exist outside of specific times or locales, and illustrate changing societal landscapes as immigration, popular media and cultural influences ebb and flow over the border.
