About the Grant

$27,000 to support the The Los Angeles Master Chorale, Music Director Grant Gershon and American composer Eve Beglarian collaboration with Persian instrumentalists Manoochehr Sadeghi and Pejman Hadadi, both Durfee Foundation Master Musicians, to create a new choral work that is based in non-western traditions (MAP 2006).

About the Project

This collaboration between composer Eve Beglarian and the Los Angeles Master Chorale represents

Los Angeles, with its vibrant immigrant community, is host to an astonishing number of under-recognized master musicians representing a wide range of musical traditions. Many of these master musicians achieved legendary status in their native countries before immigrating to the U.S., where they are now active artistic leaders within their communities.

Through this highly creative, truly collaborative process, the Master Chorale, Beglarian and the musicians will work together in unexpected and unusual ways, creating culturally relevant and artistically challenging music that pushes the choral form into new and unexplored territories.

This new musical work will premiere at Walt Disney Concert Hall in June 2007.
