About the Grant

$25,000 for Performance Explor-Atori-Yum (MAP 1995) by writer Megan Terry, visual artist Sora Kimberlain, artistic director JoAnn Schidman, community coordinator Connie Birk, and Jimmy Santiago Baca, June Havoc, Ray Barry, Jon Lindley, Jamal Mohamed, Uma Narain, Jon Ludwig, David Brink, Linda Blasé, and Gretchwn Venteicher. Eight new works were commissioned, all developed around the theme of “Same/Difference.” Centering on the ephemeral, audience-driven instruments; Wong’s play Punk Girls, dramatizing goodness vs. evil among Asian American girls; Narain’s Two Edged Sword, dramatizing the lives of the 12th centuray-14th century Indian women saints; Mohamed’s Percussion Movements; Baca’s poetic work, From the Seven Directions; Terry’s Male Beauty Pageant play; and pieces, untitled at last report, by puppeteer Ludwig and theater artist Havoc.
